2025 Classes Begin June 2nd!

The school year is winding down and it's time to think about summer!

Consider having your kids spend time outside learning skils that will last a lifetime! Self-confidence, leadership, teamwork, and sufficiency are things that our students gain while learning how to be aware of, manage, and adapt to a constantly changing environment.

For over 50 years, WYCYF Junior Sail has been making sailors over the summer. We learn our skills in the protected waters of Waukegan Harbor, then expand on them on Lake Michigan.

Our instructors are all certified by US Sailing's Level 1-Small Boat Program at a minimum, and hold First-Aid/CPR/AED, CDC Concussion Training, NASBLA, and SafeSport™ certifications.

Registration is open!

2023 Registration is Open!

Looking for something for your kids to do this summer?

We've been teaching kids to sail and making sailors for almost 60 years!

We teach kids (ages 5-17) to sail, but we also give them the opportunity to develop leadership skills, environmental awareness, teamwork, make new friends and learn to love a sport they can participate in their whole lives!

We sail in the protected waters of Waukegan North Harbor and on Lake Michigan just off the Municipal beach. Day sessions are week long (so you easily join us without disturbing your other summer plans), Monday thru Friday, mornings from 9:00-12:00, afternoons 1:00-4:00, or all day 9:00-4:00 with an hour lunch break in between the morning and afternoon sessions.

Our season starts the week of June 12th and runs through the week of August 14th.

For more information about the program, follow this link: 2023 Season Overview

Instructors are US Sailing and SafeSport certified.

Don’t send your kids to camp…send them on an adventure!

2017 Season Starts Monday! Be Prepared…

Parents & Junior Sailors, here’s what you need to remember to bring to class on Monday.

Junior Sailors and Parents, we’re right on the edge of starting the 2017 Junior Sail Season! I can’t wait to meet you and your children as we make our way through the summer.
The staff and I wanted to take this opportunity to send out a quick reminder of the things students should bring to class during our time together this year.
Life Jackets/Vests:
WYCYF Junior Sail provides life jackets for use, but many of you might prefer getting your own. Life Jackets must be US Coast Guard-approved Type II or Type III(recommended) personal floatation devices. Life Jackets are required to be worn at all times when on the dock, in a boat, and any place in between.
Drinking water/Refillable water bottle:
Please bring your own – We have committed to not using disposable bottles to help keep them out of our lake.
Sunscreen / Sunblock / Rash guards / Under Armor / Performance long-sleeve shirts and or leggings:
Protect yourself and your skin from the sun – you can still burn even when the sky is overcast.
Towel:
You will more than likely get wet at some point or another during the day – you should have something to dry off with.
Swimming Suit:
Swim/water comfort test on the 1st day and Swim suits are very comfortable to sail in all season.
Dry Change of Clothes:
The ride home after class is a lot more pleasant in dry clothes.
Closed-toe & rubber sole shoes:
I can’t stress this enough – NO FLIP-FLOPS –
Good traction makes sailing easier. Plus, feet are crucial to what we do…You’ll want to keep them protected!
Windbreaker/Foul weather gear:
We sail rain or shine, hot or cool weather – please have clothing options that will protect you for potential weather conditions.
Sunglasses with retainer strap: (Croakies…etc)
Protect your eyes and protect your sunglasses.
— Full Day Students —
Don’t forget to bring your lunch and/or a snack or money to buy lunch and/or snack – Instructors will chaperone students to Dock Side for Lunch or Ice Cream..
Any questions? Contact me directly and I will be happy to explain.
We’re looking forward to a great season with you!
