WYCYF Junior Sail Alumni Regatta

June 25 – after the Chicago-Waukegan Race

Let’s not call it a “GRUDGE MATCH”… it’s an “Alumni Regatta”. We know you can race the big boats, but do you still have enough skill to win a dinghy race? Mark your territory and bring your “A” game! Bragging rights are on the line and the trash talk had better be cheap!

Divisions will be set based upon participation. The judges can also be BRIBED to create match-ups. So, if you have a score to settle, a disagreement with a past instructor, or a deep seeded need to teach a former class mate the lesson he/she so richly deserved… settle it here, in our harbor, on our water, with our boats.

Unfortunately, you will need to be an Alumni from WYCYF Junior Sail to race – but egging racers on is open to everyone…

This Friday, June 17, is Bring-A-Friend Day to Junior Sail.
Do you have a friend who might like to join Junior Sail if he or she could try it first?  Invite him or her to join you. Your friend can experience what WYCYF Junior Sail is all about while you show what you’ve learned. We’ll even supply pizza for lunch!
  • The total number of friends is limited, so register now before spots fill up!
  • Fee—$25 for a half day, and $40 for full day. Cash or check, please.
  • Bring-A-Friend Day will take place rain or shine.

If your friend really wants to sail with you after experiencing Friend Day, we can prorate tuition for the remainder of this session. Or, get them all set up to start sailing in Session II, which starts July 5.

This is an opportunity to try WYCYF Junior Sail with your friends

May 28 – Junior Sail to Clean Up Harborfront before Scoop Regatta

Join us Saturday morning, May 28, to help the Anchorage Yacht Club, Waukegan Yacht Club and Waukegan Sail and Power Squadron clean up the Waukegan Harbor front. This service project takes place before the Scoop the Lake Regatta and Dingy Poker Run, an annual event that this year is raising money for WYCYF Junior Sail. Yay!

And, our advanced sailors are invited to participate in the regatta as crew members! Organizers will match you up with boats needing crew. No big-boat experience is necessary.

The clean up starts at 10:30 and will last about 1.5 hours. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided. Please meet at the Waukegan Harbor office, located south of the Waukegan Yacht Club, about 10:15 am. Bring something to drink and wear your Junior Sail shirts. Parents, please stay and help out!

The regatta runs from 12:30 to about 2 pm.

Please let us know if you can attend this event and if you’d like to crew. RSVP to info@juniorsail.org. We’re happy to sign school service forms for students.
